Dear Parent:
SPACESET 2004 is our eighteenth annual competition. Lodging for Friday and Saturday nights is included in the registration fee already paid. In previous years, some participants living in the Pasadena area have requested to be allowed to spend one or both nights at home, and return to the competition the following morning. Our policy has been to allow the participants to do so only with their parents' permission. (There will be no reduction in fees for participants not staying in the lodging provided.) If you would like your son or daughter to be able to leave the competition and spend the night at home, complete this form and turn it in at the SPACESET check-in desk on the first day of the event - do not mail it to us. We ask that both you and your child sign the form to acknowledge the responsibilities of leaving and returning to the competition. If you wish to have your child stay at the competition the entire weekend without leaving, please discard this form.

I hereby give my consent for my son/daughter, ______________________________, a registered participant in SPACESET 2004 at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, to leave the competition on Friday, March 19, 2004 and Saturday, March 21, 2004, for the purpose of spending the night at home. My son/daughter will check out with the SPACESET staff member on duty before leaving the event, and will check in the following morning with the SPACESET staff member on duty at the guard booth at JPL. I understand that from the time my son/daughter checks out of the competition, until he/she checks in the following morning, the JPL Space Exploration Post 509, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and the Exploring Division of the Boy Scouts of America will not be responsible for the activities of my son/daughter, and will not be held liable for any damage or injury resulting from any such activities.

As a registered SPACESET participant, I agree to check out with the SPACESET staff member on duty before leaving the competition. I agree to check in the following morning with the staff member at the JPL guard booth. I understand that participants who leave the competition without first checking out will forfeit their place in the competition. Once the doors to the gymnasium are locked by the staff member on duty, no one will be allowed to leave. Checking out is for the purpose of going home to sleep, not going somewhere else and then returning to the gym; therefore, once I have checked out, I will not be allowed to return until the following morning. I will return to JPL no later than 7:30 the following morning so as not to delay the morning's activities.
